Cosmetic Treatments In A Time of Mask Wearing
Cosmetic treatments of the upper face in this time of mask wearing have become a focus, but it’s important to preserve the ability to express emotion under that mask. Wearing a mask means there is a smaller window of the face that is visible for those all important non-verbal communication cues. I’ve seen many posts talking about the importance of treating crow’s feet right now and while a small amount of neuromodulator can help soften, I think it’s important to keep some crow’s feet – this way there is no uncertainty around whether you are smiling or not under the mask. A true "Duchenne smile" where you are smiling with your eyes can help you look genuine and convey sincerity. Similarly, having some movement in the forehead can allow you to show surprise.
Here are some of my favorite cosmetic treatments to enhance the non-masked area of the upper face:
🔹 Optimize complexion, even out skin tone, and create a healthy glow using skin care and laser or light based treatments.
🔹 Soften any deep etched in crow’s feet using a small amount of neuromodulator like Botox or Dysport or a light hyaluronic acid filler like Juvederm Volite or Restylane Skinboosters.
🔹 Forehead lines can be reduced using a baby dose of neuromodulator such that you can still lift your brows, but the etched in lines are not as deep.
🔹 Microdroplets of neuromodulators can be used diffusely in the forehead which has been shown to help with pore size, reduce oil production and contribute to healthy glow
🔹 Eyelash extensions and serums are quite popular currently. There are so many options, but one of my favourites is #latisse
🔹 Brows are also an important focus. Having a nice arch and a full brow is a common aesthetic desire. Microblading can help those who want a little optimization of their shape or fullness. I may have needed an emergency brow tune up by @maryamcollahi to help before I returned to work
