Winter Skincare Tips (Inspired by Cody Rigsby)
Don’t forget to moisturize! During a recent Peloton class, Cody Rigsby reminded everyone that no one wants those “crusty, ashy elbows and knees” Love that I can get good skincare advice while doing my workout!
In addition to his suggestions, here are a few other things to consider during the winter months...
Ante up your moisturizer:
If your cure for a stubborn winter chill is a hot shower or bubble bath, you definitely aren’t alone, but all that extreme heat can do a number on your skin (always best to wash in warm not hot water). Be sure to lock in moisture post-shower by applying a thicker moisturizer! The same goes for your hands as all this hand washing (which is so important to do) can certainly dry your skin out even more in the winter! Look for a good hand barrier cream. And if you’re especially prone to dry, cracked lips, consider using an ointment like Vaseline!
Some of my favorite moisturizers (hopefully Cody would agree ):
SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid Restore for the face, La Roche-Posay Lipikar Baume or CeraVe moisturizing cream for face and body, and Avene or CeraVe therapeutic hand cream!
SPF: Yes this must be repeated! Just because it is winter, it doesn’t mean you can neglect your sun protection. While there is less UVB around in winter, levels of UVA are still significant and can age your skin. So don’t forget your SPF! ️
Laser time: If you are considering getting laser or light-based treatments winter is a great time to do it because it is recommended to minimize sun exposure following treatment. So if you want to rejuvenate your color, tone, and texture, the winter months are ideal.
Exercise: With gyms shut down and the cold weather, it can be hard to find the opportunity for fitness. We know exercise is good for overall physical 🏻 and mental 🧠 health, but there is evidence it can also benefit the skin. As you begin to break a sweat and your heart ️ is pumping, the increased blood flow delivers nutrients and oxygen to the skin. This keeps skin healthy. So my Peloton bike has been beneficial for my winter skin health and getting skin tips at the same time! Win-Win.
